Forever My Butterfly

Gia at the playground

I stumbled across this picture and it all came flooding back.

I took this picture of Gia at the playground. Note the wood chips.

Because that’s all that she played with on the playground. She would sit and look at each piece in great detail. I wish I could see what she was seeing and find the same enjoyment and awe in such minimalism. It seems nowadays there is so much noise.

I was deeply saddened that Gia didn’t play on any of the equipment. Nevertheless, I continued to bring her and invite her to play on slides, seesaws, and anything and everything else.

Finally, with the help and support of our local PTA an adaptive swing was added to the playground and it was then that we found something that Gia enjoyed. Something she still very much enjoys.

And eventually, in her own time and gross motor abilities she was able to open up to other equipment.

Now, my concerns with the playground doesn’t involve Gia’s interest in play. In fact, she loves the playground and all that it has to offer.

Nowadays, my worry surrounds Gia’s lack of safety awareness and the awareness of her body in space.

I know there will be a day, when this worry too shall pass. Like the many that came before.

Always evolving. Forever my butterfly.

Frankly Christina 💋
